Non-Military/DoD civilians must enter Fort Belvoir through the Tulley Gate Visitor Center, . (Map) Visitors are encouraged to go to the visitors center days before Oktoberfest and receive their pass. Dog-Friendly & Stroller-Friendly 5K/10K Volksmarch (Oct 5 - 6)

The trail route planned for this event takes you along sidewalks and post roads on Fort Belvoir’s North and South Post. The course is largely flat with some hills. The slopes on the hills are not steep. The route is rated 2B due to the hills. Weather conditions should have little effect on the trail rating.  Please do not bring backpacks, large bags or ice chests/coolers into the fenced fest area. All bags are subject to search. 100% ID check.

The event will take place regardless of most weather. The trail can accommodate strollers and wagons; however, they may require portaging over road curbs. Trail is unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Participants will meet at the Volksmarch Tent Saturday or Sunday and start the Volksmarch anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants must complete the event by 5 p.m.

Get your comfortable walking shoes ready. Pets can come too! Just remember they must be on a leash and, unfortunately, they are not allowed in the fenced fest area.

FAQs

Q: I am a DoD ID card holder bringing visitors on post, do I have to take them through the Visitors Gate?

A: No. As long as there is a DoD ID card holder (Trusted Traveler) in the vehicle they become the sponsor for their visitors and the vehicle may enter through any gate. All visitors must have a valid state issued driver's license or secondary form of Identification that they can present to the gate guard. View the list of accepted Secondary Identification (PDF). Trusted Traveler - U.S. Military active or retired ID card holder, dependent ID card holder (18 yrs of age and older) and DoD Civilian CAC card holder.)

Q: What age do youth need to have an ID to enter Fort Belvoir?

A: All persons aged 16 and over are required to have a state issued ID, driver's license or U.S. passport.

Q: I am a visitor to Fort Belvoir, what documents do I need to enter Fort Belvoir?

A: Visitors driving must present a valid driver's license. Passengers must present valid driver’s license, state-issued identification card, or U.S passport.  A background check will be completed to determine access. Individuals with a driver’s license with a REVOKED status will not be able to use their driver’s license as an ID to access. Persons with an outstanding warrant or an expired license will be denied entry. Be sure to have current vehicle registration and insurance in the event you are asked. Please take a moment to read the Fitness Determination (PDF) document that details what information that is found during identity vetting will deny access to Fort Belvoir.

Q: I am a visitor for Oktoberfest, can I get a pass ahead of time to avoid the lines?

A:Yes! Visitors may go to the Visitor's Center Mon - Fri from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. and request a pass for Oktoberfest. Once you obtain a pass, you are welcome to enter Tulley or Lieber Gate. This will greatly reduce the wait times at the visitors gate.

Q: Is the Visitors Pass good for the vehicle or the individual?

A: The pass is for the individual, not the vehicle. Each visitor, not traveling with a DoD ID card holder (Trusted Traveler), over the age of 16 must be vetted and receive a pass. Example: If a person comes in to get a pass and then brings other non-DoD ID card holders through the gate, they must also go through the vetting process and get their own pass. DoD ID card holders may sponsor non-DoD ID card holders and enter through any gate. All passengers of DoD ID card holders must present a valid ID to the gate guard.

Q: What is a valid form of Identification?

A: A state issued drivers license, state identification card, and U.S passport.  *Note* any state-issued driver's license and identification card marked, “Not for Federal Identification, Not for Federal Purposes, or Federal Limits May Apply” will require a secondary ID to access Fort Belvoir.  View the list of accepted Secondary Identification (PDF).

Q: I am bringing a visitor from outside the US, what do they need to enter Fort Belvoir?

A: Non-citizens will require a Trusted Traveler escort to enter Fort Belvoir and must possess a passport with a valid Homeland Security Stamp.  They will need to be vetted at the gate and issued a pass.  (Trusted Traveler - U.S. Military active or retired ID card holder, dependent ID card holder (18 yrs of age and older) and DoD Civilian CAC card holder.)

Q: Do I have to be present to get a visitor's pass or can someone take my ID to the visitor's center?

A: You must be present to receive a visitors pass. They will take your photo for your pass.

For more information, please call the Visitor's Center at +1 (703) 806-4892.
