Winterfest and Tree Lighting Ceremony

Kick off the winter season with holiday cheer, snowball fights, loveable characters, and a tree full of sparkles to carry you into the New Year!

Come celebrate the holiday season with us at our annual Winterfest and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Visit with Santa and holiday characters for a fun photo op experience. Throughout this holiday celebration, you can enjoy train rides, s'mores by the fire pit, food and beverages, and so much more. Plus, we’re partnering with Trees for Troops® to bring our Active Duty Families free holiday trees! To culminate the festivities, join us as we light the 19-foot holiday tree. See below for details.

Winterfest Schedule of Events | 1 - 6:30 p.m.

Trees for Troops® | 1 - 3 p.m. (subject to availability)

Trees for Troops® is bringing holiday spirit to Fort Belvoir with FREE holiday trees. View ticket details below to secure a tree for your family. Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You must provide your own vehicle and tie downs to pick up your tree!

Ticket Details: Visit the Outdoor Recreation Center (10155 Johnston Rd., BLDG 778) during normal operating hours prior to December 7 for a tree ticket. Limited to one ticket per family. Tickets can be redeemed for a tree on December 7 during the pick-up window of 1 - 3 p.m. only. You must present a ticket to enter Belvoir Road from 1 - 3 p.m.

Tree Pick-Up Location: Belvoir Road (by Garrison Headquarters Parade Field)

  • Santa and Mrs. Claus photo opportunity (with breaks)
  • Character meet and greet (with breaks)
    • The “Ice Queen” and special guests
  • Snowball fights

  • Children's crafts (while supplies last)

  • DJ entertainment
  • Bounce houses
  • Laser tag
  • Face painting
  • Axe Throwing
  • Place an ornament on the future Garrison Holiday Tree
    • Bring your own ornament to hang on our future Garrison Holiday Tree! Ornaments must be appropriate for family viewing. You can retrieve your ornament from the tree at any time. Ornaments not retrieved by January 1 will be removed and discarded.

Tree Lighting Ceremony | 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 

* In the case of inclement weather, some activities may be cancelled and or moved to Wells Field House (2104 - 6028 Goethals Rd., BLDG 1810).

Installation Access Information

This event is open to all DoD ID card holders, their guests and installation visitors. All non-DoD ID Card holders who wish to attend the event will need to be sponsored by a DoD ID Card holder.  If possible, non-DoD ID Card holders and their sponsors should pre-register with the Visitor Control Center at Tulley Gate anytime between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Visitors with certain prior criminal history, however, will not be granted installation access even with a sponsor. Non-DoD ID card holders should review the Fitness Determination list to determine their eligibility before requesting a sponsored visitor pass.
